Have you ever thought: “I can’t believe I’m doing this.” “I can’t believe I said that.” “I can’t believe I didn’t choose the other path.” We surprise ourselves a lot when we are in uncharted territory. Sometimes those surprises are proud moments, other times they are not. No matter how much we think we know about our own hearts, we can still surprise ourselves.
We often talk about situations we hear about on the news or in history books. We think about how we would reacted, how we would have contributed to those moments. We have great conversations wondering just exactly what we are made of. A lot of times, we believe we know we would have done exactly certain things, but will we ever truly know?
The one who is never surprised by us is God. Psalms 103:14 “For he knows how we are made. He remembers that we are dust.” He knows the innermost pieces of our hearts, pieces that we have not even begun to find yet. He knows exactly how we will react in every circumstance, and has carefully placed us in every spot He knows we will be molded in some way. Nothing is by accident, and nothing is a surprise to God.
Take comfort in the knowledge of something knowing you so deeply. Allow that exposure to become fully vulnerable to God in your prayers, for He already knows. The friends that know the most about us are the ones we cherish the most because they can provide us with insight we may not otherwise see. Let God be that insight for you today.
