Peter Escapes from Prison
Acts 12 tells how Herod imprisons Peter under heavy guard, but an angel leads him out during the night while the church is praying.
Peter Escapes from Prison
Herod places Peter in prison under multiple squads of soldiers, intending to bring him before the people after Passover.
The church responds with earnest prayer.
On the night before his expected public appearance, Peter sleeps chained between two soldiers while guards stand at the entrance.
An angel appears, light fills the cell, and Peter’s chains fall from his wrists.
The angel tells him to dress and follow. They pass the guards, and an iron gate opens by itself.
Only after they reach the street and the angel disappears does Peter fully realize that the escape is real.
He goes to the house of Mary, the mother of John Mark, where many believers are gathered praying.
A servant named Rhoda recognizes Peter’s voice at the gate and becomes so excited that she runs back without opening the door.
The others initially tell her she is out of her mind. Peter continues knocking until they finally let him in and are astonished.
Peter explains how the Lord brought him out of prison and then leaves for another place. At daybreak, the guards are left unable to explain how their prisoner disappeared.
