Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus
Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus
Mark 10 tells how Bartimaeus, a blind beggar near Jericho, repeatedly calls out to Jesus and receives his sight.
Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus
Jesus leaves Jericho with his disciples and a large crowd. Beside the road sits Bartimaeus, a blind beggar.
When Bartimaeus hears that Jesus of Nazareth is passing, he begins shouting, addressing Jesus as Son of David and asking for mercy.
Many people in the crowd tell him to be quiet. Instead, Bartimaeus cries out even more loudly.
Jesus stops.
He tells the crowd to call the man. Their tone changes immediately. They tell Bartimaeus to take courage because Jesus is calling him.
Bartimaeus throws aside his cloak, jumps up, and comes to Jesus.
Jesus asks what he wants him to do. Bartimaeus answers plainly that he wants to see.
Jesus tells him that his faith has made him well. Immediately Bartimaeus receives his sight.
Mark closes the scene by saying that Bartimaeus follows Jesus on the way. The healed man does not simply regain vision and disappear into the crowd; his restored sight becomes the beginning of following Jesus toward Jerusalem.
