The Story of Rebekah
Rebekah is introduced as a relative of Abraham’s family. Abraham’s servant meets her at a well, and her hospitality becomes part of the sign he has requested. Rebekah agrees to leave her household and travel to Canaan, where she becomes Isaac’s wife.
After a period of barrenness, Isaac prays for her and she conceives twins. God tells her that two nations are in her womb and that the older will serve the younger. Rebekah favors Jacob. In Genesis 27 she devises the plan by which Jacob, disguised as Esau, receives Isaac’s blessing. She then helps arrange Jacob’s departure when Esau plans revenge.
