The Story of Noah
Noah is introduced in Adam’s genealogy as the son of Lamech. As Genesis describes increasing human violence and corruption, Noah is singled out as righteous and as one who walks with God. God instructs him to build an ark and bring his family and representatives of living creatures aboard.
The flood narrative describes the waters rising, the ark coming to rest, and Noah sending out birds to determine whether the land has dried. After leaving the ark, Noah builds an altar. God establishes a covenant with Noah, his descendants, and living creatures, giving the rainbow as its sign. Genesis 9 later records Noah’s vineyard, drunkenness, and the episode involving his sons before giving the genealogy that follows the flood.
