David Brings the Ark to Jerusalem
David Brings the Ark to Jerusalem
2 Samuel 6 tells how David brings the ark of the covenant toward Jerusalem, how Uzzah dies after touching it, and how the ark later enters the city amid celebration.
David Brings the Ark to Jerusalem
David gathers thousands of men to bring the ark of God toward Jerusalem. The ark is placed on a new cart driven by Uzzah and Ahio.
The procession is joyful, with music played before the LORD.
At a threshing floor the oxen stumble. Uzzah reaches out and takes hold of the ark.
Uzzah dies there, and David becomes both angry and afraid. The celebration stops, and David is unwilling to bring the ark into Jerusalem at that time.
Instead, the ark remains for three months at the house of Obed-edom. Reports come that his household is being blessed.
David then resumes the journey. This time the ark is carried amid sacrifice, shouting, and trumpets.
David dances before the LORD with all his might as the ark enters Jerusalem. Michal, Saul’s daughter and David’s wife, watches from a window and despises him in her heart.
The ark is placed inside a tent David has prepared, and David offers sacrifices and blesses the people.
When David returns home, Michal mocks what she considers his undignified public behavior. David answers that his celebration was before the LORD and that he is willing to humble himself further.
The chapter combines joy with danger. The ark’s arrival makes Jerusalem a center of worship, but Uzzah’s death prevents the story from treating divine holiness as casual or controllable.
