Psalms 34:18
The LORD [is] nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
What does Psalms 34:18 mean?
Psalm 34:18 describes the Lord as close to people crushed by sorrow and attentive to those humbled in spirit. In the surrounding psalm, this comfort belongs to a larger invitation to seek the Lord, trust him, and call on him amid trouble.
God’s nearness does not mean that grief or hardship disappears at once. The verse offers assurance that the brokenhearted are not abandoned: the Lord draws near and brings help to those who turn to him in their distress.
Sorrow does not put you beyond God’s care. He draws near to the brokenhearted and helps those who come to him in humility.
