Hebrews 13:4 affirms the honor of marriage and the purity of the marital bed, condemning sexual immorality such as adultery and fornication. While it does not explicitly mention pornography, the principle of sexual purity within marriage can be applied to discussions about sexual sin, including pornography. The surrounding verses emphasize godly conduct and faithfulness, supporting a broader ethical framework. However, the passage does not directly address pornography, so its topical application requires careful interpretation.

James 1:14-15 clearly addresses the process of temptation beginning with lust, which is a core element in the issue of pornography. The passage explains how lust leads to sin and ultimately death, providing a strong biblical foundation for understanding the spiritual dangers of giving in to lustful desires. The surrounding verses reinforce the theme of enduring temptation and the source of good gifts, giving a well-rounded context.

1 Corinthians 6:9 lists various sinful behaviors that prevent inheriting the kingdom of God, including sexual immorality terms that some interpret as relating to homosexual acts or other sexual sins. While the passage condemns sexual immorality broadly, it does not explicitly mention or directly address pornography. The surrounding verses emphasize holiness and the body’s sanctity, which can be applied to sexual purity, but the connection to pornography is indirect and requires interpretive caution.

The passage addresses fornication and the sanctity of the body as belonging to the Lord, which can be related to sexual purity. However, it does not explicitly mention or directly address pornography, making the topical connection indirect and requiring interpretive application. The surrounding verses emphasize fleeing fornication and the spiritual implications of sexual sin, providing strong context for sexual morality but not specifically for pornography.

Galatians 5:19-25 lists ‘works of the flesh’ including sexual sins such as adultery, fornication, uncleanness, and lasciviousness, which can be related to the topic of pornography as it involves lust and sexual immorality. However, the passage does not explicitly mention pornography, and the application requires interpretive extension from the general condemnation of sexual immorality to the specific issue of pornography. The passage contrasts fleshly works with the fruit of the Spirit, encouraging believers to crucify fleshly lusts, which is relevant but not specific. The surrounding verses emphasize walking in the Spirit to avoid fleshly desires, providing good context for moral exhortation.

Psalm 119:9-10 emphasizes the importance of cleansing one’s way and seeking God wholeheartedly by adhering to His word, which can be broadly applied to moral purity including resisting temptations such as pornography. However, the passage does not explicitly mention or directly address pornography, making the topical connection indirect and requiring interpretive application.

1 Peter 2:11 admonishes believers to abstain from ‘fleshly lusts, which war against the soul,’ a phrase that can broadly include various sinful desires, potentially including lust related to pornography. However, the passage does not explicitly mention or focus on pornography, and the surrounding verses emphasize Christian conduct and submission to authorities rather than specific sins. The application to pornography is plausible but requires interpretive caution and further contextual support.

Colossians 3:5 addresses sinful behaviors including fornication, uncleanness, and inordinate affection, which can be related to lustful desires often associated with pornography. The passage calls for mortifying earthly members and putting off sinful behaviors, fitting a broader biblical call to purity. However, the text does not explicitly mention pornography or provide direct guidance on it, so topical application requires careful interpretation.

Proverbs 7:21-27 vividly warns against the seductive allure of an adulterous woman, symbolizing temptation and sexual immorality. The passage uses strong imagery to caution young men to avoid falling into sexual sin, which aligns closely with warnings against lustful behaviors such as those involved in pornography. The surrounding verses (16-20) describe the seductive setting, enhancing the context of temptation. The passage is practical for teaching about the dangers of sexual temptation and the consequences of yielding to it, without distorting the original meaning.

Ephesians 5:3 explicitly forbids fornication and uncleanness, which can be broadly understood to include sexual immorality such as pornography. The surrounding verses emphasize holy conduct and separation from sinful behaviors, providing strong contextual support. However, the passage does not specifically mention or directly address pornography, so its application to that topic requires interpretive extension rather than explicit textual support.

Proverbs 6:25 warns against lusting after a woman’s beauty, which can be related to the temptation involved in pornography. The surrounding verses caution against adultery and the dangers of succumbing to sexual temptation. However, the passage does not explicitly address pornography or modern visual sexual stimuli, so its direct application is somewhat interpretive. The context is strong in warning against sexual immorality, but the passage is not distinctively about pornography specifically.

Ephesians 5:11-12 warns against fellowship with ‘unfruitful works of darkness’ and reproving them, noting shame in even speaking of secret deeds. While this can broadly apply to hidden sinful behaviors, including sexual immorality, the passage does not explicitly mention or focus on pornography. The surrounding context emphasizes walking as children of light and exposing darkness, which can be relevant to resisting secret sins, but the application to pornography requires interpretive extension.

The verse ‘Abstain from all appearance of evil’ broadly advises avoidance of anything that might be perceived as evil, which can be applied to avoiding pornography. However, the passage does not specifically mention or directly address pornography, making the topical connection indirect and requiring interpretation. The surrounding verses emphasize general spiritual vigilance and sanctification, supporting a context of moral purity but not explicitly focusing on sexual sin or pornography.

The passage addresses adultery and its consequences, emphasizing the destruction and dishonor resulting from such acts. While it does not explicitly mention pornography, the theme of sexual unfaithfulness and moral failure could be analogously applied. However, the original text focuses on physical adultery and its social and spiritual repercussions, so applying it directly to pornography requires interpretive caution.

Galatians 5:16 advises believers to ‘walk in the Spirit’ to avoid fulfilling the lusts of the flesh, which includes sexual sins such as fornication and uncleanness mentioned shortly after. While the passage does not explicitly mention pornography, the principle of resisting fleshly lusts can be applied to it. However, this application requires interpretive extension beyond the immediate text, making it somewhat ambiguous.

The passage describes King David seeing Bathsheba bathing and subsequently summoning her, leading to adultery and pregnancy. While it involves voyeurism and sexual sin, the text does not explicitly address pornography as understood today. The context is a narrative about David’s moral failure and its consequences, which can be related to lust and temptation but requires careful interpretation to apply to pornography. The passage is distinctive in illustrating the dangers of lust and abuse of power but is not a direct commentary on pornography.

Ephesians 4:22-24 addresses putting off the old self characterized by corrupt and deceitful lusts and being renewed in righteousness and holiness. While it does not explicitly mention pornography, the passage’s focus on renouncing sinful desires and adopting a holy lifestyle can be applied to struggles with lust, including pornography. The surrounding verses reinforce this theme by condemning uncleanness and encouraging truthful, edifying speech. However, the passage is general about sinful lusts and does not specifically address pornography, so topical application requires careful interpretation.

The passage discusses the origin of defilement as coming from within a person, including evil thoughts and immoral behaviors such as adulteries and fornications, which can be related to lustful or sexual sins. While it does not explicitly mention pornography, the mention of ‘evil thoughts’ and ‘lasciviousness’ could be interpreted to include the mental and moral struggles associated with pornography. The context is clear that Jesus is teaching about internal moral corruption rather than external ritual defilement. However, the application to pornography is indirect and requires interpretive judgment.

Romans 13:13 warns against ‘chambering and wantonness,’ terms that can broadly relate to immoral sexual behavior, which may include lustful acts such as those involved in pornography. However, the passage does not explicitly mention or directly address pornography, and the terms are somewhat archaic and general. The surrounding verses emphasize living honorably and putting on Christ, which supports a moral lifestyle but does not specifically target pornography. Thus, while the passage can be applied to the topic in a general sense, it requires interpretive caution and is not a direct or explicit reference.

Romans 1:26-27 addresses same-sex relations described as ‘against nature’ and ‘unseemly,’ within a broader passage condemning various sins and idolatry. While it relates to sexual immorality, it does not specifically address or mention pornography, which involves lustful viewing or use of explicit images. The passage’s focus is on behavior and divine judgment rather than the consumption of sexual material. The broader context condemns sinful desires and actions but does not explicitly connect to pornography. Therefore, the topical application to pornography is ambiguous and requires human interpretation to avoid distortion.

Hebrews 4:15-16 speaks about Jesus as a high priest who empathizes with human weaknesses and encourages believers to approach God for mercy and grace. While it does not specifically mention or address pornography, the passage’s emphasis on temptation and seeking grace can be applied broadly to struggles with sin, including sexual sin. However, this application requires interpretive extension beyond the immediate text.
