Best Love Bible Verses in the BibleLove is the greatest commandment in the Bible. Love is so important, that the Bible mentions it over 300 times (depending on the version of the Bible you are using), spread across both the Old and the New Testament. God talks to us about His love for us, our love for Him, and our love for one another. Some of the most famous Bible verses pertain to love.
What is Love?
1 Corinthians 13:4-13- Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as a mirror; ten we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain. Faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 16:14- Let all that you do be done in love.
We typically refer to love as an emotion, or a strong feeling toward another individual. We talk about love when it comes to our children, our spouses, our family and our closest friends. We feel an emotion of deep care for these people, but is the emotion what God is really talking about?
God tells us that love is and intentional, deliberate action, rather than an emotion. When we act in kindness and concern for others, we are acting in love. Paul wrote the letters to the Corinthians that we see so often associated with marriage when he heard of the conflicts within the church. He described love to the church the way that God wants us to know love. We often see this description on wedding invitations or incorporated in wedding ceremonies. While there is value to 1 Corinthians 13 to a marriage, the letter is intended for us to love everyone in this manner. This is the true way of acting in love, and not expressing love as an emotions.
God’s Love for Us
John 15:12- This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
John 3:16- For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

1 John 4:16- So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
Proverbs 8:17- I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.
God tells us repeatedly that He loves us. First and foremost, God loves us. He loves us so much that Jesus was sent to earth to die to save us. We are all so important in His eyes that He deemed us worthy of salvation and grace through Jesus. His love is unconditional, and He deeply desires for us to believe in He loves us beyond our capabilities of comprehension, but we try to understand by believing in His promises. His love so that we may have eternal life in heaven with Him.

God’s example of His love for us is the tool for how we should love one another. He stresses the importance of loving one another, because He loves us. God explains to us that loving others is how we love Him. Our genuine love is an act of understanding of who God is, and when we have love that is pure, we can begin to reciprocate love back to God. The more we love others, the closer we draw to God.
John 14:15- If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
Matthew 22:36-40- “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depends all the Law and Prophets.”
1 John 4:20- If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.
Philippians 2:2- Complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.

Ultimately, God wants us to love Him in return. He has given us the gift of eternal life, endless love, and ultimate salvation. His only request is to love Him. God tells us ways to show our love, by following His commandments. If we continue to live out love in the way Paul described it in his letter to the Corinthians, we will bring God great joy.
